I’m Gary Merrill. I own Wilderness Waters Travel. I’m a personal fly fishing travel consultant, specializing in creating custom fly fishing adventures to the wild and remote regions of Alaska.
In 1996, my wife Heather and I bought the Royal Coachman Lodge in Bristol Bay Alaska. Thus, began my love affair with the “Great Land.” I am a long-time Alaskan bush pilot, guide, and now former Alaskan lodge owner. I have flown the Alaskan bush and guided fishermen for thousands of hours on Alaska’s greatest rivers.
I’ve been a professional fly fishing guide since 1974. I have fished in remote locations all around the world, both as guide and guest, and have developed a thorough understanding of what makes a truly great fly fishing operation. I represent only a handful of lodges that have achieved “legendary” status.
Wilderness Waters Travel is my way of showcasing and sharing these remarkable places with you. I purposely limit my representation to only these few lodges and operators with whom I have personal experience. This allows me to give you very accurate information and advice concerning each operation as well as some personal insights and experiences about each destination.
Hundreds of lodges are competing for your business. They all claim to be the “best” in the business. A few of them are correct, but most of them are not! I know the difference. I only represent the ones who are!
